In 2001, the Rainbow Academy Child Care Centers formed a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization called “The Rainbow Academy Foundation” with one primary mission: To contribute to the health, education and overall well being of children. Beginning in 2007, the foundation made its mission even more focused: To help connect parents with their children.

The Rainbow Academy corporate office donates all of the administrative costs
so that all of the money raised is available for distribution.

In the foundation’s first four years of operation, we distributed more than $22,000 and this year’s goal is to raise $50,000.

Below is a list of the some of the contributions made by the Foundation over the last 4 years:

Cancer patient’s medical expenses
Children’s Tumor Foundation
Donation of classroom partitions to not-for-profit for community outreach programs
Embrace Kid’s Foundation
Funds for the funeral expenses
Funds for housing expenses to replace the total loss of a Rainbow Academy family’s home that was destroyed by a fire
Literacy Volunteers of Union County
Reconstructive surgery from a mastectomy
2007 Greater Newark Holiday Fund
Ronald McDonald House

2009 – Fundraising for The Literacy Programs of New Jersey
The Rainbow Academy Foundation is dedicated to promoting literacy .  We know that every child needs a strong foundation for literacy, including the motivation to learn to read.  Reading enriches children’s experiences and stretches their imagination, a key ingredient for future success.

But did you know… a parent’s involvement in supporting their children’s learning habits and skills is an extremely important aspect of a child’s future success?  A new federal study by the National Center for Educational Statistics finds that “an estimated one in seven American adults, approximately 32 million, have such low literacy skills that they would be challenged to understand a medication's side effects listed on a pill bottle.”

“If no parent is left behind, no child will be left behind”

Therefore in order to support the children, it is also necessary to strengthen and support the adults in our communities.  In conjunction with Literacy Programs of New Jersey, a non-profit organization and major literacy advocate group, Rainbow Academy centers will be hosting Adult Literacy Workshops and Classes in many of our centers in the evenings and holding Fundraising Events for the Rainbow Academy Foundation throughout the year.

Tutors from the Literacy Programs of New Jersey and Rainbow Academy will work with adults to teach them Basic Reading Skills and English as a Second Language meeting a minimum of one hour a week.  In 2008, 204 Literacy Volunteers spent over 12,000 hours working with 421 students!
