Get Involved
mother There are many ways to get involved…you might even be able to share ways that we haven’t thought of yet!

Volunteers Needed
The Literacy Programs of New Jersey needs tutors to meet with adults a minimum of one hour per week to teach Basic Reading Skills or English as a Second Language.  Last fiscal year, 204 Literacy Volunteers spent over 12,000 hours working with 421 students!   In Union County alone, there are over 250 students on the waiting list.  Students are matched with a tutor based on convenience of location and time available for both parties.

Classes are offered in group settings by volunteer tutors.   No experience is necessary to become a tutor.  Training and certification are offered free to new tutors and ongoing tutor support is also provided.  Click here to volunteer!

In order to support the children, it is also necessary to strengthen and support the adults in our communities.  Therefore, we will be hosting literacy workshops and classes in many of our centers in the evenings.  Tutors work with adults to teach them Basic Reading Skills or English as a Second Language meeting a minimum of one hour a week.  Last fiscal year, 204 Literacy Volunteers spent over 12,000 hours working with 421 students!

Our fundraising efforts have begun by just asking for “small change”!  Wishing Wells, like this one pictured below in Rainbow Academy of Whippany, will be popping up in select locations. Every coin counts and children are learning the importance of giving while parents are getting rid of their "spare" change.  All are making a difference ...one penny at a time!

The Rainbow Academy Foundation welcomes any form of participation from our families, for example, volunteers to teach adult literacy classes.  If you are interested in donating your time (or money), please contact us for more information.
